Times Up?

So today, as I'm prone to do, I'm up and about early in the morning
doing a little grocery shopping at my local Wally World (notice the
grocery theme in all my recent op-eds gang?) and I notice an Eveready
Energizer display:
PLAN. PROTECT. PREPARE.
"Your Emergency Preparedness Center"
Hmmmm, I thought. There's a theme in our society now. I hear the EAS
tests every week now, multiple times per day on multiple radio
stations. I read articles in the newspaper about "preparedness" from
local officials. I see television shows on the bubblevision showing
nuclear devices going off which seem like sheeplized versions of PSAs
they don't want to really release, but have issued to get the masses
mobilized. Of course if we do get nuked, expect the government to tell
those that have radiation sickness "see, we told you to buy more
plastic sheeting and duct tape" which of course will block
0.000000000001% of gamma radiation should a localized event occur. The
duct tape has come in handy though, as I follow Glenn Beck's advice and
wrap my head in it when I watch the local news or here the latest sheep
advice from Homeland Security so my head doesn't explode.
To make matters more interesting, I've noticed a lot of goods that were
not available before suddenly on my local grocer's and drug store's
shelves. Self-heating meals, books on preparedness, medical kits for
dealing with contaminated or contagious individuals (FYI, Johnson &
Johnson Kit at Walgreen's on clearance for $11.99) are just some of the
things I've seen lately. This should make everyone take pause, but no.
Life goes on. I guess everyone is prepared. Everyone has their
checklist completed and there is zero chance they forgot anything.
So why the title, or question:
"Time's Up?"
Glad you asked. This morning, I took a different way back to my house
from the almighty Wally. As I cruised past my local National Guard
depot, there was something different. Something that wasn't there a few
weeks ago. Concrete barricades. No, not one, two or three. But all the
way around the building. Unless they are anticipating one hell of a
senior citizen's riot because the local Golden Corral is going out of
business, there something amiss. Basically, for those who do not know,
I live in Sarasota, FL. Podunk, USA with lots of wealthy sheep, er
people here. On a scale of 1-10 for preps, I would rate our fine
community at a -3, and it would be worse if were not for the several
hundred of us that have a clue.
Does this new barrier around the Guard outpost mean we'll be at war
soon? Who knows. But I'm betting there's a damn good reason that they
are doubling security there, especially since that is a mobile AA
battery (Avenger system) and they practice around here all the time. So
I ask everyone of you to look at all your preps.
Which item do you think should be at the top of your prep list?
Food. No. Water. No. Ammo & firearms. No. BoB? No.
IMHO, awareness should be your number one prep item now, if you've
taken care of everything else. Time could well be up as things always
seem to quiet down before a major war starts. And if you dare to ask
the question "is it time to prep yet" then it's too late for you.
If anyone else has observations which catch your attention, I think
this is the time to post them. Nothing dramatic or secret, but
something you drive by and notice, see at the store, or hear from local
LEO's. I'll keep posting what I see and here and hope that you all do
the same.
I have a hunch time is short. And once "IT" starts, there is no room
for looking back and saying "I could have or should have".
